There were words of gratitude for BOM Foreign Investments, when Netherlands’ Minister for Economic Affairs, Mrs Van der Hoeven, officially opened the Dutch branch office of Virage Logic on January 11, 2010. She also praised the City of Eindhoven and the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, where the R&D centre of the American microchip company is located.
Virage Logic opened its branch office in Brabant after a recent and partly takeover of the research and development activities of Eindhoven’s manufacturer of semi-conductors, NXP. More than one hundred jobs were involved in this takeover. The American company employs more than five hundred staff worldwide and is the market leader in the field of intellectual property rights in the semi-conductor industry. “As an independent IP-organisation, we are able to equip this branch with high-quality technical building blocks, so that a wider range of end products can be manufactured cheaper and brought to market faster,” said Dr Alex Shubat, President, CEO and Co-founder of Virage Logic. His company is servicing more than four hundred customers around the world. “With our R&D centre in Eindhoven, we expect to be able to further expand our product line,” said Shubat during the opening.
Virage Logic in Eindhoven will develop various new products including computer and TV-connections using HDMI and FireWire technology. The first products will be launched later this year. The company will also offer NXP-support from its new R&D centre.
Minister Van der Hoeven sees the arrival of Virage Logic in Eindhoven as a confirmation that the Netherlands in general, and Brainport in Brabant more in particular, is a popular destination for leading companies and knowledge institutes. “It is for a reason that this region has been labelled the European leader in the field of technology,” she said in her opening speech. She also praised the efforts of BOM Foreign Investments, that contributed to the decision of Virage Logic to set-up a business in Eindhoven. “With the arrival of yet another world class company, Brabant, and in particular Eindhoven, truly underlines its reputation as the perfect environment in which to establish a high-tech company.”
BOM Foreign Investments will continue to support Virage Logic in the months ahead. Its services will specifically focus on the possibilities of obtaining subsidies in the Netherlands, fiscal aspects of doing business, and other facilities that will enable the company to further develop and grow in Eindhoven.
